Real and Raw: The Art of Making a Great Direct to Disc Recording
World renown audio engineer and audiophile, Allen Sides, joins Lyn Stanley to discuss the art involved in making a Direct To Disc (D2D) recording. Allen and Lyn completed a D2D recording (London With A Twist) on January 19 & 20, 2019 at Bernie Grundman's Mastering Studio in Hollywood California and will use this as a case study to describe the history, process and expectations of this challenging recording technique to achieve an ultimate audiophile "real" and unaltered live recording. You will not want to miss the technical information Allen Sides will present, his equipment decisions and his technique description and his work with Bernie Grundman in the making of D2Ds and their importance in the recording world amid the over processed recordings and expectations of perfection in today's sound recordings. Lyn will offer a performer's perspective of the demands D2D place on the artist and musicians during these sessions with no overdubs, tuning or ProTools edits possible. Your appreciation for these rare recordings will be enhanced by this insightful presentation from two experienced professionals.
